Recently I had a very frustrating problem when trying to export my Sims or Lots to the launcher, ready for upload to share. It hadn’t always been this way and why the problem occurred is beyond me. I searched everywhere for a solution and came up with pretty much nothing. So it was left to me to be Sherlock Holmes and discover why this was happening.
My first thought was to look at permissions within Windows 7 and those on the Export folder within the EA Games/Sims 3 locale. I quickly ruled this out by checking that the permissions on parent and child folders were as they should be.
Secondly, I store my game on a different hard drive to the default install location. I have tricked the game into thinking that the folders are in the default location – in my case D:\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, when in actual fact they are on E:/Sims3. The folders in D are just junction folders (short cut). I run my game this way as my E:\ drive is a solid state and supremely faster than D:\. Personally I find this creates less lag in my game. However, this wasn’t the cause of the export problem.
After hours of searching I found a clue. An unrelated issue another Simmer was having gave me an idea. The solution to their problem may also be the same for mine. It turned out it was. Some .dbc files in the DCCache folder become corrupt. So by using Delphys Dashboard I was able to disable the files causing the problem.
Great news my share button started to function properly again.
Bad news these DCCache files hold all the information pertaining to everything I had ever downloaded & installed via the Sims 3 Launcher – so if I wanted a game that worked I had to reinstall everything I had. Let me tell you, that’s a lot of store content and CC.
Fortunately for me, I delete nothing (hence three hard drives in my PC, including a 2.5TB and NAS Storage as backup!) and I have put certain things back in the game. EA Store stuff mostly, as I am getting very dubious of third party custom content – It seems to slow my game and can be really buggy – Yes I’ve been living in denial for years!
Anyhow, I just wanted to share this info in case your looking for a solution to this problem but haven’t found it yet. This post may be of help.
